Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents, Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. When she was just five years old, she moved to Oxfordshire where she went to Dragon School. As early as the age of six years old, Emma was aware that she was going to become an actor and for a long period of years, she was a student at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theatre school in which she learned to sing, dance and acting. At the age of 10 she was performing and played the lead role in various Stagecoach productions as well as school productions. The casting process began with Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (192001) it was the film adaptation J.K. Rowling’s bestselling novel. Emma was identified by casting agents via her Oxford theatre teacher. After eight consecutive auditions, David Heyman revealed to Emma and Rupert Grint (other applicants) that they were cast in the roles of Hermione Gringer, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen debut. It was the top-grossing feature in 2001, breaking records for opening-day sales and opening weekend performances. The film's performances as well as those of its three young actors were praised by the critics. The highly distributed British newspaper, 'The Daily Telegraph' was awed by her performance and called it "admirable". Emma won the Young Artist Award as Leading Young Actress in a Film Film as well as being nominated to win five more awards. Following the debut film in the highly popular franchise, Emma became one of the most popular actresses across the world. Hermione Granger continued to be her character for more than 10 years in the Harry Potter films. Emma has been nominated twice for Critics' Choice Awards from the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
